The once prosperous farm neglected for more than half a century was a jungle of blackberries, sumac, and grape vines. The sheep have been an incredible tool to reawaken the land. We have spent a lot of time moving sheep and moving net and moving sheep, also planting trees and rolling out hay. Amber works for UVM Extension as a Grazing Specialist. The kids: Stella, Ruby, Tate, and Iris, help out here and there with lambing and chasing sheep around. They mostly enjoy other things on the farm like swimming in the river with Hazel the Dog, and building fires in the backyard. Once known as the Hazen Ford Farm, Maplemont was established by Martin and Lizzie Turner when they bought the land in 1904. Martin was much admired in the area as a self made man who started as an orphan and worked as a bucher and a logger to become a land owner. The Turners built the house and barn in 1906, and “brought the land to a high state of fertility, erected modern buildings, and engaged extensively in handling livestock, lumber, and hay…”
